What is Chainlink? It is an oracle network: a service that delivers outside data, mostly prices, to smart contracts, and LINK is its token. A trader can treat it as infrastructure with a large-cap price profile. In the 90 days to 17 October 2026 LINK's average daily range was 5.44%, about twice Bitcoin's 2.76%, it gained 42.9% against Bitcoin's 25.9%, and it moved 1.25 times as far as BTC on average.
Below: what Chainlink says it does, the supply figures from CoinGecko and the project's own page, our 90-day hourly profile, the weekday and widest-day pattern, where LINK trades, how it moves with BTC, a 1h structure read and the risks. Every number is computed from dated candles or taken from a page we fetched on 18 October 2026.
What is Chainlink and why does an oracle token trade like a large cap
Chainlink describes itself as "the only all-in-one oracle platform for creating advanced blockchain applications" and as "the market leader powering the majority of decentralized finance (DeFi)" (chain.link, checked 18 October 2026). Those are the project's own claims, not ours. Its Data Feeds are described as "decentralized data feeds delivering tamper-proof price data to smart contracts", and the docs say the feed values are "aggregated from many data sources by a decentralized set of independent node operators". The same page lists other products: CCIP for cross-chain token transfers and messaging, VRF for randomness, Automation, Data Streams, Proof of Reserve and Functions.
The homepage also shows a "transaction value enabled" counter of about $36.4 trillion, updated 6 October 2026. The project defines it as the sum of the USD value of each transaction that used a Chainlink oracle. It measures how much value touched the oracle, not how much sits in it, and it does not tell you what LINK is worth.
CoinGecko (18 October 2026) files LINK under "Oracle", "Infrastructure", "Decentralized Finance (DeFi)", "Cross-chain Communication" and "Real World Assets (RWA)", ranks it 16th by market cap and gives a genesis date of 16 September 2017. We have no LINK page under /markets/ yet. For another large cap in the same format, see the Ethereum guide; the closest live market page is Ethereum.
LINK price analysis: the 90-day fingerprint
We took every 1h LINKUSDT candle on Binance from 20 July to 17 October 2026 and averaged the high-to-low range for each UTC hour.

- Average daily range: 5.44%. Bitcoin's was 2.76% over the same 90 daily candles, so LINK's range is 1.97 times wider. The median day was 4.51%, 39 of the 90 days (43%) ranged above 5%, and 7 days (8%) ranged above 10%.
- Busiest hour: 14:00 UTC (17:00 MSK), averaging 1.54% per hour, then 15:00 (1.36%), 13:00 (1.27%) and 12:00 (1.22%).
- Quietest hours: 23:00 UTC (02:00 MSK) at 0.79%, then 06:00 and 19:00 UTC at 0.83%. The peak is 1.97 times the quietest hour.
- By session (our UTC buckets): 13:00 to 21:00 averages 1.15% per hour, against 0.96% for 00:00 to 08:00, 0.98% for 08:00 to 13:00 and 0.89% for 21:00 to midnight.
The busy block is the European afternoon into the US open. Use the trading sessions tool to see those hours in your own time zone, and the best time to trade crypto study for the same method on majors.
By UTC weekday, Friday was widest at 6.71% average range, then Monday (5.79%) and Wednesday (5.70%). Tuesday was narrowest at 4.69%, with Saturday close behind at 4.74%. Weekend days averaged 4.89% against 5.65% on weekdays, so the weekend is calmer but not quiet (see weekend crypto trading). The three widest days were 21 August (16.0% range, closing 12.1% above the open), 19 August (14.7%, +10.7%) and 28 September (14.7%, +10.2%). We do not attach news to those days, because we have no dated source that ties them to an event.
Over the 90 days LINK went from an open of 8.385 to a close of 11.986, +42.9% against +25.9% for BTC, which puts the LINK/BTC ratio up about 14%. Over the year (18 October 2025 to 17 October 2026) LINK opened at 16.61 and fell 27.8%, while BTC fell 23.4%. The highest close, 18.66, came on 20 October 2025. The deepest drop from a running peak to a daily close was 61.4%, bottoming at the year's lowest close of 7.201 on 30 June 2026. The last close of 11.986 is 66% above that low and 35.8% below the year's high close.
LINK supply and unlocks
CoinGecko on 18 October 2026: 766.85 million LINK circulating, a 1 billion maximum and total supply, a $9.21 billion market cap and a fully diluted valuation (FDV) of $12.02 billion, at a price of $12.01. 76.7% of the cap circulates, so 233.15 million LINK, 23.3%, do not.

The project's economics page (checked 18 October 2026) says "the total supply is capped at 1,000,000,000 LINK" and lists 767 million plus circulating, matching CoinGecko. It also lists more than 42 million LINK staked by community stakers and node operators, without a date, and says service fees "are then programmatically converted into LINK using a decentralized exchange". That is the demand mechanism the project describes: fees paid in other assets become LINK purchases. We did not find a measured figure for how much that adds up to, so we make no claim about its effect on price.
The page has nothing on allocation, vesting or unlock dates, and the other sources we checked did not give a dated schedule we could verify. We therefore publish no unlock calendar and do not say whether the 233 million uncirculating LINK is locked, held in reserve or simply not counted. The gap between FDV and market cap, 30%, is the arithmetic of that 23.3%, nothing more.
Where LINK trades
We read 24-hour spot volume from the public tickers of nine venues on 18 October 2026 at about 10:10 UTC. Coinbase and Kraken report volume in LINK, which we converted at Coinbase's last price and Kraken's 24h average price, so those two are approximate. The window is a rolling 24 hours, not a calendar day.

The nine venues add up to $51.0 million. Binance printed $15.7 million (31%), KuCoin $10.9 million (21%) and Bybit $7.8 million (15%), then Coinbase ($4.7 million), Gate ($4.6 million), Kraken ($3.1 million), OKX ($2.9 million), Bitget ($0.9 million) and MEXC ($0.4 million). Check the listings tracker for new venues and pairs.
Derivatives are larger than spot. The Binance LINKUSDT perpetual traded $82.4 million in 24 hours, 5.3 times Binance spot and 1.6 times all nine spot venues together. The Bybit perpetual turned over $22.0 million, with $67.7 million of open interest.
LINK vs BTC
Over the 90 days, LINK's daily returns correlated 0.68 with Bitcoin's, and a regression slope (beta) of 1.25 says a 1% BTC move came with a 1.25% LINK move on average. The split by direction is asymmetric. On the 48 days BTC closed up it averaged +1.48% and LINK +2.31%. On the 42 days BTC closed down it averaged -1.11% and LINK -1.64%. LINK moved in the same direction as BTC on 74 of 90 days (82%) and beat it on 39 (43%).
0.68 is a firm link: about 46% of the variance of LINK's daily move (0.68 squared) lines up with BTC. The rolling line shows that it was tighter before. Compare the Bitcoin guide for the benchmark itself.

The 30-day correlation started the window at 0.72 on 19 August, stayed above 0.70 from 21 August to 26 September and peaked at 0.83 on 19 September. It fell from 0.68 to 0.58 on 28 September, the day of the +10.2% LINK move listed above, and reached a low of 0.49 on 4 October. It ended at 0.56 on 17 October. We state the timing only; we did not test what caused the drop.
Reading LINK's structure
The chart shows LINKUSDT on the 1h timeframe from 15 to 18 October 2026, with the previous-day levels of 17 October: high 12.393 and low 11.737.

At 02:00 UTC on 15 October the BiasNex engine marked an external bearish break of structure at 12.299. At 08:00 UTC on 16 October it marked an internal bullish BOS at 12.605, and price printed the 12.776 high at 11:00 UTC. At 12:00 UTC on 17 October it marked both an external bearish BOS and an internal bearish change of character at 12.161, and price made the 11.737 low at 21:00 UTC. At about 10:10 UTC on 18 October the engine's 1h read was bias bearish, context trend, with ATR at 0.82% of price (volatility MED), and its note said lower highs and lows dominate recent structure, 17 against 13. Read it against market structure: 12.393, the previous-day high, is the level price has to take back before that read changes.
Risks
- Range. At 5.44% a day, with a 16.0% day in the sample, stops sized from slower coins get hit. Size from the stop with the position size calculator.
- Drawdowns. The year's deepest peak-to-trough fall was 61.4%, and the coin is 35.8% below its year high close.
- Beta above 1. LINK moved 1.25 times as far as BTC on average, and 1.64% against 1.11% on down days, so it adds risk to a BTC position rather than hedging it.
- Derivatives dominate. Binance's perpetual alone is 5.3 times its spot volume, so liquidation cascades can drive price in either direction.
- Unclear supply schedule. 23.3% of the cap is not circulating and we found no verified unlock calendar.
