What is XRP? XRP is the native digital asset of the XRP Ledger, a blockchain that reaches consensus among validators in about 4 to 6 seconds. As a market, XRP is the widest-ranging of the four large coins in our library. Over the 90 days to 11 October 2026 its average daily range was 4.9%, which is 1.82 times Bitcoin's, and 9 days covered 10% or more from low to high. This guide sets out how XRP trades, using our own numbers, including what its biggest days looked like and how the day after behaved.

All statistics come from Binance spot candles for 14 July to 11 October 2026 (UTC). Supply data is from CoinGecko, fetched on 12 October 2026. Nothing here is a forecast.

What is XRP

The XRP Ledger documentation describes a federated consensus protocol: validator nodes share proposed transaction lists, and when 80% of the validators agree, a new ledger is created. The consensus process takes 4 to 6 seconds. XRP is not mined. Per xrpl.org, "at the time of its creation, there were 100 billion XRP", and the supply timeline shows the 100 billion created in 2011 and 2012. That single fact explains how XRP's supply works: a fixed amount was created up front, and what changes over time is how much of it is in the market.

How XRP trades: the fingerprint

The cover is XRP's fingerprint: the average 1h range by UTC hour, the busiest hour and the daily range. XRP's average daily range is 4.9%, but its median is 3.5%. The gap between the two is the story: a handful of enormous days pull the average above a typical day. Of the 90 days, 14 stayed under 2%, 12 reached 8% or more and 9 reached 10% or more. The widest, 20 August, covered 23.2%.

XRP's average hourly range peaks at 14:00 UTC at 1.40% and is lowest at 23:00 UTC at 0.70%
Binance XRPUSDT · 1h · 14 Jul to 11 Oct 2026 · UTC

The clock peaks at 14:00 UTC (17:00 in Moscow, 10:00 in New York) with an average 1h range of 1.40%, up from 1.03% at 12:00 UTC and 1.20% at 13:00. It is lowest at 23:00 UTC with 0.70%, so the peak hour is about 2.0 times as active as the quietest. There is a second, smaller bump at 18:00 UTC (1.08%). By session, the average hourly range is 0.82% in Asia (00:00 to 08:00 UTC), 0.85% in London (08:00 to 13:00) and 1.04% in New York (13:00 to 21:00), which makes New York 27% hotter than Asia. XRP's average hour (0.90%) is nearly twice BTC's (0.48%). For session definitions, see trading sessions.

Weekends cool XRP by less than they cool BTC. Its average daily range is 3.48% on weekend days and 5.55% on weekdays, so a weekend day keeps 63% of a weekday's range, against 45% for BTC.

Supply and unlocks

CoinGecko, on 12 October 2026, shows 63.13 billion XRP in circulation, 99.99 billion in total supply and a maximum supply of 100 billion. Market capitalisation was about $86.4 billion, fifth on CoinGecko that day, and the fully diluted valuation was about $136.8 billion.

63.13 billion XRP are circulating out of a 100 billion maximum
CoinGecko · coins/ripple · fetched 12 Oct 2026

Only 63.1% of the maximum is counted as circulating, so about 36.9 billion XRP are not. That gap is the supply overhang to know about, and it is why the fully diluted valuation is 1.58 times the market capitalisation. xrpl.org states that in 2017 the company placed 55 billion XRP in escrow so that the amount entering the general supply would grow predictably. We do not reproduce the escrow release schedule here. Check xrpl.org or an XRP Ledger explorer for the current escrow balance before you form a view.

Where it trades

We pulled the rolling 24-hour spot volume of XRP from the public ticker APIs of five exchanges on 12 October 2026 at 20:18 UTC.

Binance carries 47% of XRP spot volume across the five venues, Coinbase 23%
Exchange public ticker APIs · 24h spot volume · 12 Oct 2026, 20:18 UTC

Binance leads with $126 million (47% of the five-venue total of about $268 million), then Coinbase with $62 million (23%), OKX with $31 million (11%), Bybit with $28 million (11%) and KuCoin with $21 million (8%). Coinbase carries a larger share of XRP (23%) than it does of BTC (12%). Coinbase is the USD pair, the rest are USDT pairs.

XRP vs BTC

XRP moves with Bitcoin and moves further. The daily returns of the two correlated 0.88 over the 90 days, and the beta of XRP's daily returns to BTC's was 1.60, the highest of the four coins (ETH and SOL were both 1.23). Its daily return volatility was 3.60% against 1.99% for BTC.

XRP's rolling 30-day correlation with BTC ranged from 0.73 to 0.92 and ended at 0.88
Binance spot · daily returns · rolling 30 days · to 11 Oct 2026

The rolling 30-day correlation ranged from 0.73 to 0.92 and ended at 0.88. It was lowest early in the window and has stayed above 0.85 since the second half of August. Compare with Bitcoin, Ethereum and Solana: BTC 1.00, ETH 1.35, SOL 1.57, XRP 1.82 times BTC's range.

The biggest days and the day after

Averages hide the tail, so here is what the five widest days in our window looked like, and what the following day did.

XRP's five widest days: 19 to 22 August form a four-day cluster, 15 September stands alone and cooled to 5.6% the next day
Binance XRPUSDT · 1d · 14 Jul to 11 Oct 2026 · UTC

Four of the five widest days are consecutive: 19 August (14.0%), 20 August (23.2%), 21 August (17.1%) and 22 August (22.1%). The day after each of the first three was still wide (23.2%, 17.1% and 22.1%), so within the cluster, a big day was not followed by a quiet one. The cluster ended on 23 August with an 8.0% range. 22 August also closed almost flat (+0.5%) after covering 22.1%, a pure wick-and-range day. The fifth, 15 September (13.7%, close −9.8%), stood alone, and the next day's range was 5.6%.

What this suggests is limited to this window: spikes arrived in clusters, and an isolated spike cooled quickly. We do not attribute any of these days to news or other events, and with a sample this small the pattern may not repeat. If you trade XRP around a headline, check the primary source on the day, and widen the stop for several candles rather than one.

Reading XRP's structure

The 4h chart covers 3 to 12 October 2026, with the BiasNex engine's marks as of 12 October.

XRP 4h: the engine marks a CHoCH down, a CHoCH up and a latest CHoCH down, with the previous-day high at 1.43 and low at 1.39
XRPUSDT · 4h · 3 to 12 Oct 2026 · snapshot 12 Oct 2026

The engine marked a change of character (CHoCH) to the downside, then a CHoCH up, then a CHoCH down again, which is the most recent mark. At the snapshot the previous-day high (PDH) was 1.43 and the previous-day low (PDL) 1.39, so the whole range is only about 3% wide, small by XRP's standards. For the terms, read market structure and change of character. This is a dated snapshot. For the current read, open today's live XRP structure.

Risks

  • Averages hide the tail. The mean (4.9%) is well above the median (3.5%) because of a few very large days. Plan for both.
  • Clusters, not single spikes. If a wide day arrives, the next one may be wide too. Do not assume a quiet day after a large one.
  • Supply overhang. Over a third of the maximum supply is not counted as circulating. Understand it before you size a long hold.
  • One window, one venue. The numbers describe 90 days on Binance and can change.
