SUI is the native token of Sui, a layer 1 blockchain where holders pay gas fees, stake to validators and vote on protocol upgrades. For a trader, two things define it: it is volatile and it still has scheduled supply to come. Over the 90 days to 12 October 2026 its average daily range was 6.41%, 2.37 times Bitcoin's, and its daily returns correlated 0.68 with BTC. Circulating supply is 41% of the 10 billion cap, and the Sui Foundation's own schedule adds about 22 million SUI a month.
Below: what Sui is and what SUI does, our 90-day hourly profile, the weekday pattern, the supply schedule, where it trades, the BTC link and the 1h structure read. Every number is computed from dated data or taken from a source we fetched on 13 October 2026.
What is Sui and what is SUI used for
Sui's tokenomics page (docs.sui.io, checked 13 October 2026) lists four uses for SUI: paying gas fees, staking in its delegated proof of stake consensus, serving as a liquid asset for applications, and governance votes such as protocol upgrades. Holders delegate stake to validators, who lock SUI as collateral for each epoch. Storage fees feed a storage fund whose principal "never fully depletes". The same page says total supply on Mainnet is capped at 10,000,000,000 SUI.
CoinGecko (13 October 2026) ranks SUI 30th by market cap at $1.05 and files it under Smart Contract Platform, Layer 1 and Proof of Stake. That tells you the trade: SUI is an altcoin priced as a bet on the network's growth, so it moves with the market and adds its own noise.
How SUI trades: the 90-day fingerprint
We took every 1h SUIUSDT candle from 15 July to 13 October 2026 (2,160 candles, Binance) and averaged the high-to-low range for each UTC hour.

- Average daily range: 6.41%. Bitcoin's was 2.70% over the same window, so SUI's is 2.37 times wider.
- Busiest hour: 14:00 UTC (17:00 MSK), averaging 1.72% per hour, then 15:00 (1.61%) and 13:00 (1.43%).
- Second bump: 01:00 to 02:00 UTC (04:00 to 05:00 MSK), at 1.41% and 1.43%, above everything between 03:00 and 12:00.
- Quietest hour: 23:00 UTC (02:00 MSK), at 1.01%. The peak is 1.7 times wider.
- By session (our UTC buckets): 13:00 to 21:00 averages 1.35% per hour, 00:00 to 08:00 averages 1.21%, 08:00 to 13:00 averages 1.19% and 21:00 to midnight averages 1.12%.
In practice the New York afternoon overlap does most of the work, and the Asian overnight hours come second. If you trade SUI around the European morning, you trade its calmer part of the day. The trading sessions tool shows these windows in your own time zone, and the best time to trade crypto study covers the same method for majors.
Weekdays and wide days
By weekday over the 90 daily candles (15 July to 12 October), Friday was widest at 8.10% average range, then Monday (7.10%) and Thursday (6.32%). Tuesday was narrowest at 5.43%. Weekend days averaged 5.98% against 6.58% on weekdays, so SUI does not go quiet on weekends.
49 of the 90 days (54%) had a range above 5%, and the median day was 5.88%. The three widest days were 22 August (21.5% range, closing 3.5% below the open), 25 September (21.0%, closing 17.8% above the open) and 21 September (17.9%, +16.2%). We do not attach news to those days: we have no dated source that ties them to a specific event, and a story without a source is a guess. The practical point is that a 3% stop sits inside SUI's ordinary daily noise.
SUI supply and unlocks
CoinGecko on 13 October 2026: 4.12 billion SUI circulating, a 10 billion maximum, a $4.33 billion market cap and a $10.51 billion fully diluted valuation (FDV), about 2.4 times market cap.

The unlock schedule is published by the Sui Foundation, which says tranches will be released over seven years and that the plan may be adjusted. Its circulation API (sui-circulation.suiexplorer.com, queried 13 October 2026) gives month-end circulating supply. Its October 2026 figure, 4.118 billion, matches CoinGecko's. Reading the series:

- The big step is behind us. Circulation rose 1,043 million SUI in May 2024, the month the one-year cliff ended, per the tokenomics page.
- Monthly releases are shrinking. May 2026 added 52 million. June 2026 added 24 million, and each month since has been about 22 million, falling slowly.
- The next 12 months add about 222 million, 5.4% of today's circulating supply, taking it to 4.34 billion by October 2027.
- The schedule runs to May 2030, ending near 4.78 billion, or 47.8% of the cap, in the API's data.
At $1.05, one month's release is roughly $23 million, against a 24-hour spot volume of $74 million on Binance alone. That is not an argument that unlocks do not matter. It means the schedule is gradual rather than cliff-shaped, and the API is the place to check it, since the Foundation notes it can change. We do not publish a recipient breakdown because the page we fetched states none.
Where SUI trades
We read 24-hour spot volume from the public tickers of nine venues on 13 October 2026 at about 19:55 UTC.

Binance printed $74.0 million, 35% of the $214 million across the nine. KuCoin ($25.6 million), Bitget ($22.6 million), Coinbase and Kraken (about $21.4 million each, converted from SUI volume at the last price) and OKX ($21.2 million) follow. Gate, Bybit and MEXC are smaller. Binance's SUIUSDT perpetual traded $363 million, 4.9 times its spot volume; Bybit's perpetual traded $106 million against $9.8 million spot. Derivatives drive the tape here, so spot prints alone understate how much trades.
SUI vs BTC
Over the 90 days, SUI's daily returns correlated 0.68 with Bitcoin's. In our Toncoin post the same calculation gave 0.57 for TON, so SUI is the more BTC-led of the two, with a wider range on top. 0.68 is not a hedge: roughly half the variance of SUI's daily move (0.68 squared is 0.46) lines up with BTC.

The rolling 30-day correlation started at 0.70, peaked at 0.86 on 21 and 22 August, held near 0.75 to 0.79 through mid-September and then dropped to 0.63 to 0.68 from late September. A coin that decouples from BTC for a few weeks usually has its own driver, so check the trend before assuming it will last. The Bitcoin guide covers the benchmark; for a layer 1 that tracked BTC far more closely, see the Cardano guide (0.78 over its 90 days).
Reading SUI's structure
The chart shows SUIUSDT on the 1h timeframe from 10 to 13 October 2026, with the BiasNex engine's structure events and the previous-day high (1.1399) and low (1.0243).

The engine marked a bearish break of structure at 1.109 on 11 October at 00:00 UTC and another at 1.1084 on 12 October at 11:00 UTC. At 22:00 UTC on 12 October (01:00 MSK on 13 October) it marked a bearish change of character at 1.0488. At 00:00 UTC on 13 October price wicked to 0.9935, below the previous-day low, and was back near 1.05 by the evening. In market structure terms that sequence is lower highs and lower lows followed by a liquidity sweep-style probe of the low; the engine's bias at the time of writing was bearish. The live read is on the SUI markets page, where you can also add SUI to your watchlist and get structure alerts on Telegram. The chart is a snapshot of 13 October. Polkadot takes a different route, with parachains secured by a shared relay chain.
Risks
- Supply keeps arriving. About 22 million SUI a month is scheduled, and the schedule is the Foundation's to adjust.
- Wide range. At 6.41% a day, an ordinary day can take a tight stop out. Size from the stop with the position size calculator.
- BTC dependence. A 0.68 correlation means a BTC sell-off usually reaches SUI, with a larger move.
- Derivatives-heavy. Perpetual volume is several times spot, so funding and liquidations can drive moves that spot volume does not explain.
- Browse the category. See other coins in the Coin Library.
